Founded in New York City in 1923, this third generation, family owned business is among the top 50 largest electrical distributorships in the United States. Its president, Suzanne Turtle Millard, has been named one of the top 50 woman business owners in the country.
With five stocking locations in New Jersey, as well as locations in Connecticut and Texas, the company serves the industrial, construction, commercial, electrical contracting, export, utility and telecommunication markets. Turtle & Hughes has attained ISO 9002 at its' Houston branch location and preparation for ISO 9000 is under way in the other locations as well.
Over the years, Turtle & Hughes has diversified its' product and service offerings with the development of two new divisions: Turtle & Hughes Integrated Supply (THIS) and TurtlEnergy. Turtle & Hughes Integrated Supply has successfully expanded the company's efforts to offer multiple commodities to industrial plants as a low-cost, single source to facilitate those customers' vendor reduction programs. TurtlEnergy is a distributor of point of use power generation systems that harness solar power. This division is also pursuing the development of wind-power and hydrogen-cell energy sources for sites that seek total energy independence.
Turtle & Hughes is certified as a WBE by several state agencies, public and private entities and the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
