Vozzcom, the leading provider of broadband fulfillment services
In December of 2000, Doreen and David Vozzola launched what is today the cable industry’s leading broadband fulfillment services company, Vozzcom. While the company’s rise to the top appears to have happened quickly, the proprietors have spent more than two decades working in cable and running their own business.
Prior to Vozzcom, Doreen was president and founder of a services company that targeted the printing industry while Dave was a division president for a cable fulfillment contractor that merged with several smaller businesses and working toward his doctorate in Computer Science.
“I got tired of working for big corporations with lots of bureaucracy,” says Dave. “I knew that I could easily remove some inefficiency by flattening the organization and staying connected to the front line field service technicians.”
That instinct has proven successful. According to both Dave and Doreen, their innovative organizational structure provides for more focused metrics and better ROI for their clients. Vozzcom has achieved retention numbers in some Comcast Systems as high as 70%.
“We are a ‘Customer Retention’ company first, committed to assisting our clients in meeting their operational and financial goals,” says Doreen. “Our field service technicians are trained to provide the highest in customer service. It is crucial that we make our clients like Comcast stand out as a well-run, customer-oriented company.”
Vozzcom’s field techs are not only trained, their backgrounds are checked, each is drug-tested and their driving records are scrutinized. In order to recruit and retain high-quality employees, Vozzcom is one of the few broadband fulfillment companies that provides its employees with access to medical, dental and vision coverage as well as a 401k retirement plan with a 4% company match.
“As an additional part of our training program, we educate our techs on the ancillary products and services our clients offer like cable modems,” adds Doreen.
Dave’s educational background in computer science led to the development of Vozzlink, an online data center exclusive to the company that allows clients to log-in and view reports online 24-hours a day.
“Cable company managers use outsourcing as a way to lower costs and improve operational efficiency” says Dave. “Even with a field service provider, cable managers still want to maintain a link with their field operations, a benefit Vozzlink offers.”
Vozzlink reports identify critical success factors through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Standard KPIs include field collection save percentages, total collection save percentages, average balances collected, disconnect completion rate percentages, quality assurance performed, equipment recovery detail and equipment loss detail. Reports can also be customized at the client’s request.
Last year, Vozzcom was certified by the Women in Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). Recently, the company was honored by DiversityBusiness.com in three major categories for the State of Florida - Top Woman Owned Business in Florida, Top Diversity Owned Businesses in Florida and Top Small Business in Florida. Vozzcom’s President Doreen Vozzola is the only woman at the helm of a cable outsourcing business that specializes in customer retention, installations, system audits and marketing programs meant to expand a customer’s participation in cable offerings. She also sits on the board of the South Florida Chapter of Women In Cable Television (WICT). Vozzcom has sponsored events for the organization. Dave, Doreen and several of the company’s employees are also members of SCTE.
Vozzcom has partnered with the Walter Kaitz Foundation and SCTE, sponsoring the 2005 Supplier Diversity Connection at Cable-Tec Expo, a special program for women- and minority-owned suppliers. Vozzcom also exclusively sponsored the Welcome Reception at the 2005 Walter Kaitz Foundation Dinner in New York.
“We feel it is important to give back to organizations like WICT, SCTE and the Walter Kaitz Foundation which serves the industry and its membership well,” says Doreen.
Vozzcom recently added additional Comcast Systems to their growing client list and has expanded their personnel ranks to meet upcoming demand. Backed by a strong traveling team, Vozzcom prides itself in setting up new systems quickly and efficiently. 2006 is expected to surpass service and retention benchmarks.
“As with each of our clients, we understand our role as a partner in delivering value,” says Dave. “Our secret to success is not complicated - we strive to provide clients with the highest level of service that consistently exceeds expectations.”
