Hope, Help, and Warning
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America® (the Partnership) is a nonprofit organization uniting communications professionals, renowned scientists, and parents to offer information and support to millions of American families as they aim to raise healthy children.
The medium sends the message - and makes a difference.
As parents navigate substance abuse issues in their families, they often need advice on what to say to their kids and how to begin the conversation. They want advice from experts and other parents, but they don't know where to find it.
To fulfill that need, the Partnership is creating a comprehensive, dynamic collection of resources at http://www.drugfree.org/ to answer parents' questions, offer expert adivce on addressing drug and alcohol issues throughout a child's life, and connect parents to each other through an online support community.
Comcast’s unprecedented commitment to an unremitting need.
Comcast will play a significant role in gaining maximum exposure for these resources among parents. With an unprecedented commitment of $55 million, Comcast and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America will leverage a mix of Comcast's assets, including cross-channel advertising, the company's signature On Demand service, and its leading broadband Internet portal, www.comcast.net, to promote these much-needed tools and services for parents.
Parents are the greatest influencers in a child's life, and Partnership research shows that kids who report learning a lot about the risks of drugs from their parents are up to 50 percent less likely to use drugs. However, only 31 percent of teens report learning a lot about drugs from their parents.
As today's parents are faced with a constantly changing drug landscape that includes teen abuse of prescription and over-the-counter medications, inhalants and the spread of methamphetamine, the Partnership, with the support of Comcast, is committed to being a valuable partner as they strive to raise healthy children.
